Launch on Product Hunt
A Product Hunt launch puts a live product in front of early adopters for one day, starting at 12:01 AM Pacific. The odds have fallen: Hunted.Space, which sells launch analytics, counts 6% of 2025 submissions featured, down from 37% in 2023. Founders who placed well report curious visitors more than buyers, and asking people to upvote can get a launch dropped.

When does it fit?
- The product is live and usable today: Product Hunt does not feature waitlisted products unless access is immediate.[6]
- Your users are early adopters, makers or tech people, the audience Product Hunt describes.[9]
- You have been active on Product Hunt well before launch: the platform calls one week a minimum and recommends three months or more.[8]
- A small team or a side project can pick a quieter day: Product Hunt says weekend launches get 15% more Visit clicks.[7]
When should you skip it?
- The plan depends on lining up upvoters: Product Hunt asks you not to, and says it can drop or remove the launch.[1]
- The product needs a considered purchase: a founder who placed sixth reports curious visitors, not buyers.[14]
- It is your only channel for the month: Beep's founder reports that one Reddit post brought more visitors than a first-place launch.[15]
How do you run it?
Post it yourself
You do not need a hunter, and hunters no longer email their followers. Never pay a hunter or a promoter: it is against the rules.
Prepare the page
At least two gallery images, a short tagline, a link that lets people in the same day, and a first comment from you on why you built it.
Pick the day
Launches go live at 12:01 AM Pacific. A quieter day, such as a weekend, leaves a small team more room than a busy weekday.
Tell your community, ask for feedback
Share the launch link with people who already know the product and ask what they think. Do not ask for upvotes and do not send mass messages.
Write every reply yourself
Answer comments as they come, in your own words. Product Hunt filters AI-generated actions and spam out of the count.
Count what arrives
Tag the link with UTM parameters, then count visits, signups and paying customers from the launch over the following week.
What usually happens?
- Featuring has become rare: Hunted.Space, which sells launch analytics, counts 6% of 2025 submissions featured, after 37% in 2023 and 17% in 2024.[10]
- Most launches get few votes: an Indie Hackers count of 5,639 Product Hunt launches in one week of July found 89.6% with ten votes or fewer and 2.1% above 100.[12]
- A good finish takes hundreds of votes: Anysite.io's analysis of 3,869 launches in the first half of 2026 tells makers to aim for about 400 to 520 upvotes.[11]
- Makers post their own launches: Product Hunt recommends it, and its launch guide counts 79% of featured posts as self-hunted.[4][8]
- Each launch day runs on Pacific time and opens at 12:01 AM, Product Hunt says, so a launch competes with everything posted that day.[4]
Who has done it, and what happened?
Each case is one team's own report: what happened to them, not a typical result.
Hugo, maker of Hakanai2024, Negative result
Launched a small SaaS on Product Hunt alone, on a day with 120 launches, and also posted it on Hacker News and Reddit.
Hugo reports 20 votes, 36th place, and 32 visits from Product Hunt.[13]
One solo launch, approved hours after the day started, with no audience lined up.
Joao Seabra, founder of BrandingStudio.ai2026, Mixed result
Launched an AI branding tool sold at a one-time price, with no Product Hunt network and no supporters lined up.
Joao Seabra reports 6th place with 168 upvotes, 400 signups in four days and one paying customer: a 0.25% conversion rate.[14]
Self-reported over four days; a high one-time price may explain part of the low conversion.
Farid Shukurov, co-founder of Beep2023, Mixed result
Prepared a launch for three weeks and finished first of the day.
Farid Shukurov reports a bit over 1k visitors from the launch, fewer than a single Reddit post brought later.[15]
Conversions were not tracked.
What does the evidence say against it?
How do you read the result?
- What to count
- Visits, signups and paying customers from the launch link
- When to read it
- One week after launch day
- How to decide
- Judge it on paying customers, not rank: Joao Seabra's sixth place brought 400 signups and one customer. If the launch brought visits and no buyers, keep the backlink and put the effort into a channel where buyers are.[14]
What goes wrong?
- Asking people to upvote, or sending mass messages, can drop the launch or remove it from the homepage.[1][2]
- Paying a hunter or a promoter is against the rules, and paid upvotes get a product removed.[8][9]
- Comments or votes made by AI or bots are filtered out of the count.[3]
- Featuring is decided by the Product Hunt team, so a launch can follow every rule and still stay off the homepage.[5]
How was it graded?
- Evidence
- B. Moderate evidencePlatform data and two launch datasets set the odds of being featured and of getting votes, and three independent founder reports agree that even top finishes bring modest traffic. No dataset measures signups.
- Verdict
- SituationalFits a live product for early adopters and makers, launched by someone already active on Product Hunt, for feedback and a backlink. Low odds as a source of paying customers.

Please don't. People should upvote things they genuinely like or find interesting, not because they were peer pressured to do so.
Feel free to spread the word and bring friends into the discussion, but asking or incentivizing people to upvote may trigger the algorithm to drop the product in the ranks or remove it from the homepage entirely.

We recommend posting your own product. It's also not necessary to have a Hunter for your launch. In fact, posting yourself gives you full control over the launch.
The site operates on 24-hour periods in PST so your post will go live on the site at 12:01 AM PST.

Weekends, when people have some time to spare, can be great for smaller teams, side projects, and personal apps.
While weekends might have fewer launches from big tech names, products launched on the weekend get 15% more "Visit" button clicks than those on weekdays.

One week is just a minimum, too; we highly recommend joining the platform well ahead of your launch (three months or more) and building a presence in the community .
79% of featured posts were by makers who self-hunted 60% of #1 Product of the Day winners were self-hunted
However, many products that do not achieve this rank have done very well, met their goals, and had undeniably successful Product Hunt launches .
Paying hunters or promoters There is no rule against using a hunter outside of your team, but paying people to hunt your product goes against our guidelines.
